Though we’ve been selling Catrikes in our Portland shop for over a decade, we’re new to online shipping. So, while our Frequently Asked Questions are hypothetical, the answers are factual
Is purchasing from RPDX online as good as the instore experience?
Our absolutely unobtainable goal is to replicate the instore experience you’ll get in our Portland store. Our absolutely obtainable goal is to give you the best possible online experience.
Do you guarantee lowest prices on the web?
Catrike and Bosch products are offered at Manufacturer Retail Price. Our remaining products are market priced. And because we’re trike shop, not a warehouse, our pricing ensures we have the expertise, spare parts and resources to support you during and after the sale.
Does your website have an AI chat function to answer questions?
We do NOT have a chat feature. We do not use AI. Instead of ChatGPT, we have CatGTP. But -trust us- an AI cat is no more helpful than a real cat. The good news is you can call or email and we’ll schedule an uninterrupted time block to go through your order, answer questions and help you get comfortable with your purchases.
So, you’ll help me with my order?

If I’ve bought from RecumbentPDX online but want to get fitted in person, can I do that?
Heck, yeah!! We’ll make sure you’re properly fitted. We’ll take you out for a shakedown ride through beautiful Ladds Addition. Or over the Tillikum. Or Tabor! You can enjoy one of Mel’s fabulous lattes. Pet the dogs. Maybe visit Powells Books while you’re in Portland. Instore is the experience we most want for you.
Does RPDX deliver overnight just like Amazon Prime?
Absolutely not! We are not an online store. We’re a bricks-and-mortar shop -run by humans- that also sells online. There’s no huge warehouse with robots scurrying about -like the “dazzling universe of robots” that Amazon’s strangely not-at-all ashamed about.
RPDX ships out on a more-or-less twice a week schedule.
Best news of all? Since we’re just not that big, we’re not just filling orders. We’re experts at what we do and every order gets looked at. If something baffles us, you’re going to get an email before we pack the order.
How do you ship?
We ship by UPS, US Postal Service or common carrier for larger items. All items are insured against loss to a total maximum value per shipment of $500. Excess value insurance may be purchased for $2.50 per $100 shipment value.
When will my stuff arrive?
We do not partial ship. When your order is complete, it will be shipped. If we’re out-of-stock, we will order from our suppliers. If our suppliers are out-of-stock, we will notify you. You can then
- Cancel your order and receive a full refund
- Cancel the just portion that’s out-of-stock and we’ll ship what we have
- Confirm you’re happy to wait for the entire order
I’m SO excited! What do I do when my package arrives?
And you SHOULD be excited! This is very cool! Still, remember to examine your package before accepting delivery. Is it ripped open? Is a corner crushed? Is it soaking wet like it’s been thru a summer thunderstorm? Document the conditions under which you’re accepting the package. Pull out your cell phone and video the delivery driver describing the damage. Then, clearly describe the damage in writing on both your and the driver’s shipping documents and get the driver’s signature. You are NEVER obligated to accept damaged packaging, so understand that if you unconditionally accept a damaged package, there may be no means to get it repaired/replaced.
What’s RPDX return policy?
All sales are final unless specified by pre-sale written agreement. This is important, so we state it again: ALL SALES ARE FINAL UNLESS SPECIFIED BY PRE-SALE WRITTEN AGREEMENT
Does my purchase come with a warranty?
Everything we sell is warrantied against defects in manufacture and assembly. Warranty period vary by product. Here’s a general list:
- Catrike is 5 years on frame. 1 year on all components
- Bosch and Bafang Motors are 2 years on all components
- Rohloff and 3×3 Nine have 2 year warranties
- Unless noted otherwise, all remaining items are 1 year.
Fun Fact: We have sold over 1000 Catrikes. We have NEVER had a customer warranty issue. Not one! Watch the Catrike Factory Tour video and you’ll know why.
While our defect rate on motor kits is under 1%, warranty is still important. RPDX keeps a deep inventory of replacement parts, so you won’t (and shouldn’t) have to wait get back on the road. We have the resources to get your warranty repairs done quickly.
How does RPDX warranty policy work?
Warrantied items will be repaired, replaced or refunded at our discretion. Warranty determinations are made at our Portland store. Customer is responsible for shipping/insurance by USPS, UPS or delivery to 2025 SE Hawthorne Blvd Portland OR 97214. Upon repair/replacement, RPDX will pay “return-to-customer” shipping/insurance. Again, it’s the customer’s responsibility to return items to our Portland store. It’s our responsibility to return the repaired/replaced item to the customer.
Can I have my local bike shop do the warranty work?
There are experienced talented local bike shops throughout our great land, but it’s still recommended that you bring your trike to RPDX for repairs. If you still want to take responsibility and have your repairs done locally, we’ll support your local shop with warranty parts and mechanic advice. We DO NOT cover labor from outside mechanics, so -again- we’ll support with parts and phone advice, but we won’t cover local mechanic costs.
What if my purchase needs non-warranty repairs?
This is a thing that happens. Maybe you leaned on the motor kit display and broke it right off! Or you slammed into a curb and taco’d a wheel. Our deep parts inventory means we can help you with the right part and get it shipped right out.
Just as importantly, we’ll support you getting the repair installed
Can you help me with items I’ve purchased?
We are thrilled to take your phone call. But, please ensure you’ve read/watched all provided materials and followed installation instructions prior to calling RPDX for support.
