As a regular marathon-runner and super-athlete before ALS, it’s no surprise that Rhonda’s hyper-competitiveness is undiminished. Rhonda calls her Catrike Trail one of her “retooling things”, saying, “when I’m on my trike, I’m completely healthy and free from ALS and I love it!”
She continues to roam freely with husband Curt. Recently riding the 22 miles of the Crooked River Oregon Scenic Byways in Prineville and the 61 mile route of the Columbia Scenic Highway from Troutdale through Hood River to The Dalles. According to Curt, “She puts the pedal down. Even the the kids say, ‘Mom moves!'”
Rhonda organized an evening riding group with the neighborhood ladies. Rhonda and her close friend Trina rode their Catrikes on Cycle Oregon Joy Ride.
She’s even the Poster Child -literally, on the poster- for the Bike to Defeat ALS ride.

In 2016, Randy lost a leg to cancer. He and his son Matt -who clearly inherited Randy’s sense of humor- describe the freedom and joy brought by his Catrike Villager. After recovery, Randy missed cycling -prompting a 2018 trip to RecumbentPDX. A half-mile into his demo ride, Randy already knew, “This is the ONLY place to be!” On the subject of pedal-assist motor, Randy says, “There is no question. You want it!”
Randy loves the exercise, the outdoors and the freedom or his regular 2-3 hour rides.
Many RPDX customers show incredible grit and bravery to get back out on the road. We’re honored to help them forge that path!

After losing a leg to cancer, Tish remained determined to ride. Custom-built Shimano Electronic Shifting ensured a smooth ride. A year later, Tish returned for a pedal-assist motor kit -displacing the electronic shift multi-gear hub with a motor kit. RPDX mechanics installed a Shimano DI2 electronic derailleur.

RPDX mechanics ensured proper fit and performance on Tish’s initial build
We initially built Tish’s Catrike Trail with a Shimano DI2 electronically-controlled rear hub. A year later, she came back looking for a bit more speed to keep up with her husband so we installed a rear hub motor -which went RIGHT where the DI2 rear hub was. So, RPDX mechanics installed a derailleur -but made it “DI2” to continue support for electronic shifting.
